While today's pop stars are all too ready to flash their naughty bits, ask them to expose their most private parts -- their hearts and souls -- and you'll discover just how prude (and cowardly) contemporary artists can be. That's why singer-songwriter Pierce Pettis is so remarkable: The man is fearless. Each of his many songs is an exhibition of feelings so profound and universal, it's like hearing your most private thoughts set to (very, very good) music. It's this ability to capture intense feeling that makes him a "songwriter's songwriter." Garth Brooks, Dion, Joan Baez and Art Garfunkel all agree; they are among the many who have covered his masterful compositions. Hear one of the nation's most critically acclaimed folk stars live, when Pettis performs a powerful solo set at Arts Garage. [less-]
